LAKESIDE DARKROOM

WHO WE ARE

Lakeside Darkroom (LKSD) is a Community Interest Company (CIC) dedicated to celebrating and honoring women photographers from across the globe and throughout history. Established in August 2022, LKSD serves as an analogue darkroom where women practitioners are recognized as pivotal figures in the promotion and advancement of photography as an artistic, educational, and empowering discipline.

At LKSD, our primary focus is to provide a feminist, safe, comfortable, and empowering learning environment for practitioners of all levels. We believe in creating a space where everyone is treated equally and can appreciate analogue photography from a professional standpoint. Our ethos revolves around collaboration, sharing, experimentation, and embracing mistakes as valuable learning opportunities.

Our goal is to foster a sense of connection, accountability, and comfort among practitioners, enabling them to fully participate in both group and individual activities. It's important to note that our space is rooted in feminist principles, promoting openness, inclusivity, love, collaboration, intergenerational dialogue, and a staunch stance against racism, machoism, colonialism, and discrimination of any form.

In summary, Lakeside Darkroom offers a unique experience for photography practitioners to engage in analogue photography, learn, collaborate, and grow in a supportive and empowering environment that champions feminist values and principles.

Feminism is indeed about advocating for the equal rights and opportunities of all genders. It's rooted in the belief that everyone, regardless of gender, should have the same rights, opportunities, and freedoms.

Inclusivity is a fundamental aspect of feminism, recognizing that diversity and differences should be celebrated and embraced within the movement. It's about ensuring that all voices are heard and represented, regardless of race, age, class, socioeconomic status, physical or mental ability, gender or sexual identity, religion, or ethnicity.

Intersectional feminism takes inclusivity a step further by acknowledging the complex interplay between different forms of discrimination and oppression. It recognizes that individuals may experience multiple layers of marginalization based on their intersecting identities, and aims to address these intersecting inequalities in a holistic and inclusive manner.

Ultimately, true equality means leaving no one behind and working towards a world where everyone has equal opportunities, regardless of their background or identity. It's about learning, understanding, and actively challenging systems of inequality to create a more just and equitable society for all.
